Oh, what a beautiful weekend! Timing is everything. Earlier in the week, it was wintry and rainy, even snowy. But the sun came out on Thursday.
The word at City Hall is that the number of visitors has been down about 10 percent this winter, based on water use and room taxes and such. Maybe so, but you couldn't tell it on this weekend, the last Saturday in January and the first Sunday in February.
Both Saturday and Sunday have been nothing but bright sunshine in Ocean City. Yesterday, the parking lot at Dumser's in North Ocean City was full at 1 in the afternoon. Do you suppose all those people were eating lunch, or having a late breakfast? Doesn't matter, it's a free country.
The temperature was already 50 degrees at 10 a.m. this morning (Sunday). I know exactly what time it was because I was running late for church. And then I had to slow down because there was a State Trooper waiting at the bridge. I don't suppose being late for church is a good excuse for speeding.
The parking lot at church was full, just like at Dumser's. I had to park on the street, which was also full, but that's what I get for being late.
By noon, it's 56 degrees. People are enjoying the sun and getting some exercise on the boardwalk. It might hit 60.
And today is Super Bowl Sunday! Football, parties, commercials! When the Super Bowl is over, it means that pitchers and catchers will be reporting for spring training any day now.
