Ocean City Boardwalk Traditions: Wockenfuss Candies
After all this serious talk about the Convention Center and the economy, I personally could use something a little lighter. Time to return to our series on Boardwalk traditions.
Ocean City, Maryland, has had a sweet tooth from the beginning. Wockenfuss Candies, in business since 1915, is a good example. Wockenfuss has at least two stores on the Boardwalk, and one in the White Marlin Mall in West Ocean City.
There were few restaurants in Ocean City in the earliest days, because almost every hotel featured its own dining room. And after dinner, I guess folks went out for a stroll on the Boardwalk. It's no surprise that ice cream shops and candy stores were among the earliest businesses, and they are still thriving today.
Come to think of it, what could be more recession-proof that ice cream and candy?
