Ocean City on the Cusp of Spring

The pace of preparations for the season is accelerating, as spring approaches in Ocean City, Maryland. You can hear the sound of hammers and paint brushes up and down the Boardwalk. (Well, you have to listen very closely to hear the paint brushes.) The photo above is one example, showing workers putting the finishing touches on the exterior of the new Dough Roller restaurant on the Boardwalk at South Division Street

Only in March could we have a week like this one in Maryland, and in Ocean City.

On Monday, snow blanketed Oakland in the west (almost West Virginia) and Ocean City in the east (almost the Atlantic Ocean), and everything in between. How often do we have snow everyplace in Maryland, on the same day?

Monday night in Ocean City, it was 25 degrees with snow and ice everywhere. The streets were quiet and empty. Even the Mayor and Council meeting was quiet and lasted less than an hour! Not much news there anyway, unless you count the report from Comcast that your Cable TV bill is going up an average of 4.5 percent. Does the cost of Cable TV going up even qualify as news? Is anybody surprised? It will be news when the Cable TV bill goes down!

Friday, the temperature is 55 degrees in West Ocean City at noon, 58 degrees on the Coastal Highway at 5 p.m., and sunny. What a difference five days makes. What a difference 30 degrees makes.

Saturday, the temperature will surely top 60 degrees here in Ocean City, Maryland, and it might approach 70 on Sunday. Remember, technically it's still winter.

The annual Ocean City Job Fair is Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Convention Center. At last count, 55 employers were signed up, with many, many job openings to offer.

Regular gas is $1.83 per gallon.
