The Ocean City boardwalk is not a maintenance-free structure. The boards get wear and tear from millions of footsteps, and from exposure to the elements 24/365. Regular maintenance is needed, but you certainly don't want to do it during the summer. The winter quiet gives workers a welcome opportunity to do some major repairs. Notice that they've covered a lane on the left side with plywood so that winter walkers can stroll past. This work site is in front of the Kite Loft between 5th and 6th Streets.
