Ocean City Boardwalk Traditions: Dolle's Candyland

History and tradition are respected in Ocean City, Maryland, particularly in the historic downtown area and along the boardwalk. Quite a few businesses proudly announce the year they were established on their signs.

Today,
Ocean City Blog begins an occasional series of photographs highlighting some of the boardwalk businesses and buildings with the longest history. I take requests, so if there's a business or building you'd like to see, please send me an e-mail at oceancitymdbjh@yahoo.com. These business-tradition photos will be interspersed with posts on other Ocean City subjects over a period of weeks. In the spring, I'll post photos of some of Ocean City's most historic churches.

Dolle's Candyland, above, is the first picture in the series. Dolle's claims the earliest year of establishment I could find on a boardwalk store sign. The top sign proclaims "Ocean City's Original Since 1910." And the sign next to the door adds, "Fine candies since 1910." Can you imagine how much salt water taffy Dolle's has sold since 1910?
